The former president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Corneille Nangaa, current leader of the political party "Action for the Dignity of Congo and its people" (ADCP), officially launched this Friday a new coalition called “Alliance Fleuve Congo”. From Nairobi, Kenya, Nangaa held a press conference where he revealed that this anti-Félix Tshisekedi alliance brings together various groups, including the M23. Considering the elections scheduled for December 20, 2023 as an "electoral coup d'état", Nangaa declared that the Congo River Alliance also brings together other movements such as PARECO, Kyahanda, FPDC, Twirigwaneho, FRPI, Chini ya Kilima, among others. Under US sanctions over allegations of "persistent corruption" linked to the December 2018 elections, Nangaa was accused by the US Treasury of misappropriating CENI operational funds for personal and political purposes , thus delaying the electoral process. Despite these allegations, Nangaa maintains his innocence.
