USA makes military adjustments in the Middle as it prepares a possible Iranian retaliation on Israeli on accusations of assassination of Hamas leader in Tehran

Israel and the U.S. are preparing for an unpredictable Iranian retaliatory strike on Israel as soon as this weekend, WSJ reports.

The expectation is that any response is likely a few days to a week away, a U.S. official said.

New U.S. military force posture adjustments in the Middle East now: 

Naval:

— USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group to replace USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group in the Central Command area.

— Additional ballistic missile defense-capable cruisers and destroyers deployed to U.S. European Command and U.S. Central Command regions.

Air Force:

— Deployment of an additional fighter squadron to the Middle East.

Land-based Defense:

— Increased readiness to deploy additional land-based ballistic missile defense.

Existing Capabilities:

— USS WASP Amphibious Ready Group / Marine Expeditionary Unit operating in the Eastern Mediterranean.
