Somalia to build the first space launch centre in Africa!

Somalia's upcoming Spaceport, now confirmed as "under construction" by both Somali & Turkish presidents, will be the 1st space launch facility in Africa and the 3rd in a Muslim-majority country after Kazakhstan and Iran. Key advantages include:

✅ Facility is being built at an undisclosed location along the country's long coastline to the Indian Ocean. Its eastward orientation and close proximity to the equator allows for unique space launch advantages, saving fuel costs and enabling the ability to reach many different types of orbits.

✅ 1st, 2nd and even 3rd rocket stages of heavy lift vehicles will be able to safely splash down in the ocean in relatively low-traffic areas, reducing risk and spacecraft insurance costs. A naval port nearby will allow for quick transportation of payloads and rocket parts as needed.

✅ The SpaceCenter will include a launch control building complete with additional facilities for engineering services, visitors and journalists, hangars for engine & rocket assembly, a railway system to move assembled rockets to various launchpads, SLV erector systems and multiple launch towers designed to accommodate various rockets in use around the world.

✅ The center will offer launch services globally and is expected to become one of #Mogadishu's top revenue sources (split 50:50 with Türkiye) while providing high-paying engineering, technology and manufacturing jobs to thousands of Somalis. It will also catalyze the rapid development of

Somalia's industry, hospitality and business services sectors.

✅ The space complex will significantly boost Somalia's international image, stabilize the country's political scene while promoting federal unity, and contribute to the creation of supplementary revenue streams including FDIs and tourism across the country.
