LIBARU for short, a structure that brings together nationals of Aru territory, a territory located in the far north of Ituri on the border between the DRC, Uganda and South Sudan, denounces an attempt to create a new armed group in this entity by a deserting/deserted FARDC officer.
According to this structure, it is a certain Colonel named Asamba who is recruiting young people for a possible rebellion in Aru.
In a press address earlier in the weekend, his spokesman François Odipio called on security authorities to quickly deploy a force in the area to counter the threat.
He further condemned the repeated incursions of South Sudanese soldiers as well as the entry he described as “suspicious” of vehicles from neighbouring countries during the late hours in the same area.
Several houses were set on fire and people’s property was looted by uncontrolled elements of the South Sudanese army in several villages along the border between the two countries where local sources note a small number of Congolese loyalist soldiers.
