DRC army officer killed by maimai

An officer of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) was found dead, Monday, August 24, 2020, in the chiefdom of Batangi, nearly 7 km from the commune of Kirumba, in the south of the territory of Lubero (North - Kivu).
The official delegate of the provincial governor assigned to Kirumba, explained that the victim was first taken hostage by the attackers at the level of the barrier erected in the town of Kamutobe on Sunday evening. They executed him afterwards.
“We didn’t kill a second in command of the FARDC near Kamutobe. The Mai-Mai kidnapped him. They killed him and took the weapon he possessed. It was  sunday, evening. He was found dead Monday just in Kamutobe, on the side of Kikuvo, ”said Muhindo Syawite Lule Mathieu, official delegate of the governor in Kirumba.
Rebel activism in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo remains unprecedented. Numerous Mai-Mai militiamen still overlook several villages in the territories of North Kivu, like Lubero.
Last July, armed strangers assimilated to the Mai-Mai militiamen set fire to an “unoccupied” DRC Armed Forces camp in Lubango, a town located in Kitsombiro, on the Butembo-Goma road section.
