Police at the border of Kasindi have intercepted,
since August 9, 2020, a package containing at
least 800000 US dollars, intended for rebels
active in the Beni region, confirmed Monday,
August 31 by local civil society as well
as government delegate based in Kasindi.
According to these two sources, the offender
caught in the bag, claimed that the money came
from Nairobi, Kenya and should be used as
logistical support to the rebels in the Beni region
who are logistically stripped following the high
pressure of the FARDC.
′′ This is a file that exists. Kasindi is a small
town, when a new one like this is circulating well
it's almost the whole city that is informed of it.
And so we have the DCF officer for example,
there are also some customs officers who know,
the person carrying this money had revealed that
this money was intended for funding an armed
group without being able to quote the name of
this group ", said Prosper Kalengya, Vice
President of Kasindi Civil Society.
Joint by Act30 cd, Kasindi's delegate official,
Kambale Sivavuyirwa Barthélémy has clarified
that some members of the local security
committee have already been arrested and are
currently being before the Congolese justice of
the region in order to inform about the crossing
of this sum.
The local authority has called the population to
calm while awaiting further investigations
opened by the competent authorities in Beni to
learn more about the file.
As a reminder, civil society actors in the Beni
region have always alerted the funding of armed
groups including ADF rebels with funds from
outside to supple the logistics of these rebels.
