The paving work on National Route 4, starting from the Kasindi-Luviriha border post in the Beni territory of North Kivu, will soon begin. This important phase is scheduled to start in the first half of 2026, according to the new timeline announced by Dott Services Limited, the company carrying out this project to modernize the Kasindi-Beni and Beni-Butembo roads.

The project, officially launched in June 2021, is moving into its second phase, particularly on the Kasindi-Beni axis from PK 0 to PK 23, where the work is already at a very advanced stage: widening of the roadway, water channeling, installation of the crusher in the village of Kilya, everything is ready to move on to laying the asphalt, says Stiven Nyembwe, deputy head in charge of works control at Dott Services Ltd.

" On the section from PK0 to PK23, the road widening, drainage, and installation of crushers in the village of Kilia have already been completed. Everything is ready to proceed with the asphalt paving. The crusher is operational and storing materials for the paving scheduled for early 2026. "

This project, led by two governments, the DRC and Uganda, includes the modernization of the Kasindi–Beni (80 km), Beni–Butembo (54 km), and Bunagana–Rutshuru–Goma (89 km) road sections in North Kivu. In total, it brings the total length of the roads involved to 223 km, for an estimated overall cost of $551.6 million.

"According to the bilateral agreement, Dott Services Ltd has committed to financing 60% of the project, with the Congolese and Ugandan governments each taking charge of 20%.

The investment will be repaid through a toll system, with reduced rates thanks to contributions from both states. The concession is planned for a minimum period of 15 years.
