Intense fighting resumed since early morning this Friday, January 10, 2025 on the hill of Kahongole, overlooking the locality of Masisi-center, approximately 80 kilometers west of Goma, in the territory of Masisi (North Kivu). According to local civil society, it was the army supported by the wazalendo who launched the assault with the aim of reconquering the capital of the territory of Masisi. "Masisi woke up under gunfire that was reported around Kahongole, it is a hill that overlooks Masisi-center. On other lines of combat, the FARDC, supported by the wazalendo, continue to retake localities, particularly on the Ngungu and Karuba axis. In a statement made this Friday, January 10, 2025, in Goma, the capital of the North Kivu province, members of several citizen movements call on the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi, to officially declare war on Rwanda. This call is made the day after the reoccupation of the capital of the Masisi territory by the M23 terrorists, supported by the Paul Kagame regime. According to these activists, they claim that the occupation of Congolese territories benefits Paul Kagame, Rwandan president, and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda who enrich themselves from the plundering of minerals and other wealth from Congolese soil. These citizen movements and pressure groups then demand the closure of all borders with Rwanda and the release of all soldiers unjustly convicted.

The Minister of Communication and Media reaffirmed the country's desire to do everything possible to end once and for all the Rwandan war of aggression via the M23 rebellion. During a press briefing held on Thursday, January 9, 2024 with his colleague from Foreign Affairs and the spokesperson for the FARDC, Patrick Muyaya revealed that if the government opposes any initiative for dialogue with this rebel movement, it is to break with the cycle of mixing and mixing at the root of treason within the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo. “This war is waged against every Congolese wherever they are on the national territory because it has been going on for 30 years. President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi inherited this war and with him we now have the advantage of having a clear strategy that we detail to you every day to put an end to it once and for all and to avoid recycling”, “This is why Madam Minister of State and all Congolese negotiators are firm on the issue of negotiation with the M23 because there is no question that we can open any breach to recycle the problem of mixing and blending that has allowed us to keep traitors within our Army until now in any case. And if we talk about the death penalty, it is precisely to repress behaviors like that”, Patrick Muyaya told the press.
