The leadership of the Rwandan and Tanzanian Armed Forces met in a meeting bringing together military leaders in border areas on both sides of the two countries, to discuss issues including cooperation in managing cross-border security.
This 12th meeting is being held in Nyagatare from May 28 to 30, 2025, bringing together military leaders in border areas on both sides.
During this meeting, which will discuss current security issues, the military commanders of the border areas on both sides will jointly review the steps taken since previous such discussions, particularly in combating illegal cross-border activities.
Both sides emphasize the need to expand military cooperation on both sides as agreed by the Heads of State.
The Commander of the 5th Division of the Rwandan Armed Forces, Brig Gen Pascal Muhizi, commended the far-sighted leadership of the two Heads of State, aimed at bringing peace to the people and the region.
He also called on the military commanders in the border areas on both sides to prioritize peace and security, and to ensure coordination in their responsibilities.
The Commander of the 202nd Brigade of the Tanzanian Defence Force (TPDF), Brig Gen Gabriel Elias Kwiligwa, who is also leading the Tanzanian Defence Force delegation that attended the meeting, said that the previous meetings were particularly fruitful in resolving existing problems and challenges, and that all was achieved due to the collaboration between the two parties.
