The Congolese government is accusing the Rwandan operator MTN Rwanda of operating illegally in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Congolese Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ARPTC) claims that the company is providing mobile phone and internet services in the Goma and Rutshuru areas without holding any license issued by the Congolese authorities.
According to the authorities, residents of Rutshuru have reported the installation of equipment attributed to MTN Rwanda on some cell towers in the area. They also allege the sale of Rwandan SIM cards in the Democratic Republic of Congo without prior authorization from the relevant authorities.
