wazalendo forced out of Misisi

 Heavy fighting at Mboko na Ng'ombe, near Kilembwe, in Lulenge Sector, Basimimbi District, from the night of Sunday, September 27, 2026 and throughout Monday, brought together AFC/M23/Twirwaneho fighters with the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC), Burundian troops and Wazalendo rebels and FDLR, which ended with the fighters retreating, some fleeing to Fizi-centre and others to Makembe.


According to reports from the area, AFC/M23 fighters attacked along the "Mboko na Ng'ombe" axis, hitting positions of Rwandan and Burundian rebels, in particular those led by Commander Nzabampemba (a Burundian) and those led by Commander Théophile from the FDLR/Hamada faction.

The fighting took place on the road to "Maléngé," near a place known as "Deux-Maisons," in the Gurupoma of Basimimbi (a village of Makembe/Babunge) in the south of the Lulenge sector.

The fighting began on Sunday and continued throughout Monday, September 28, 2026, according to reports.

‎Due to the fighting on this road that enters Tanganyika Province in Grand Katanga, all Wazalendo fighters in the gold mining town of Misisi (south of Fizi Territory) were forced to leave the area and set up their base at Makembe to prevent the AFC/M23 fighters from advancing.

Also in Lulenge Sector, on the Abangya (Kabanja) road, it is reported that many Burundian soldiers (FDNB) have abandoned the battle and are heading towards Fizi-Centre after heavy fighting with AFC/M23 fighters.


So far, no figures on the number of deaths or injuries in the fighting have been announced by either side, especially since the Congolese government has suspended communication and internet services in the entire Fizi region since July 3, 2026; this makes it very difficult for residents of this part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to communicate with others.
